SitAwS-V Situational Awareness System -Vessel

SitAwS-V comprises the development of a digital sensor-based environment perception system for ships for the detection of people and objects on the water. Based on classic obstacle and object detection methods from aviation, SitAwS-V offers fast and reliable detection of persons and objects in the water even under extreme weather conditions. Increased detection efficiency using SitAwS-V enables a significant increase in the speed of assistance in the event of an emergency at sea and the avoidance of collisions. In addition, the system is also designed to detect and raise the alarm for people who go overboard.

The SitAwS-V system is based on LiDAR (laser-based) sensor technology and on the technology that we are developing for obstacle detection for helicopters. The sensor technology is eye-safe and there is no interference between the sensors currently used in ship operation.
